1 Dress, 3 Ways

When you find a dress with pockets, sleeves, and a nice length, you figure out as many ways as possible to wear it.

My friend, Kristin, sells LuLaRoe clothing, and I quickly became this line's #1 fan.  The dress from last week is the same dress, different pattern.  I highly recommend these clothes, and especially this dress (the Amelia dress).  Kristin will be doing a flash sale today (!) and may or may not have a few Amelia dresses available for you.  (She will!) :)

And now for the 3 ways....

^With boots

^A little fancier with heels and pearls

^And super simple for a normal day out with flats and (you can't see it), but a gold giraffe necklace.

^Oh and HEY! High Kick for Wednesday. :)  I hope you find something great to wear from LuLaRoe.  It's hard to find outfits that are cute, cozy, and actually cover your body...but here they are!

The big week

I've been having a really hard time with Charlie starting kindergarten.  More than I thought I would.

I know he'll be totally fine.  He loved preschool, enjoys Primary at church, has a great attention span, is super smart....all the things that make for an excellent what is it that's making me all crazy in the head about it??!

I finally figured it out....

I'm going to miss the heck out of him.

I waited a long time for this little sweetheart, and he's my best little buddy.  Charlie is also such a good helper to me, and a fantastic brother to Walker and Crew, so what am I supposed to do without him??!

I'm also borderline slash extremely jealous of the teacher who gets to spend so many hours with him every day.

^after The Buddy Holly musical a few weeks ago

We went in yesterday for his first day of assessment. I let Charlie choose where we went for lunch beforehand (pizza, of course) and on the way to the school, he said, "I'M GOING TO KINDERGARTEN!!!!!!"

I was almost in full panic attack mode before dropping him off, but my friend Nikki was dropping her son off at the same time. It was perfect timing, because just like that, a tender mercy distracted me from losing my mind.

He's going to love it!  And I'm going to count down the minutes every day until I can see him again. And maybe I can sweep off my front porch in the mean time....(those top pictures yikes.) :)

Also...this baby...  !!

3 things that will help me move on from summer

This has been such a fun summer.  One of my favorite summers ever, actually.  We've had a perfect blend of vacations, camps, and relaxation....and I'm not ready at all for school to start.

BUT! Here are 3 things that are going to soften the blow of having summer come to an end.

1.  Fun fall festivities:  I already have an idea for Halloween costumes (family costumes this year!), football games (I have no clue what's going on, but I love them), fall tv (that counts as a festivity, right?!)

2.  Beautiful weather:  If you haven't been to North Carolina in the fall, you are missing out!  (Plan a trip for this year and come visit me!) :)

3.  Back to school shoes:  I'm really excited about these shoes from Rack Room Shoes. My boots are perfect for dressing up or dressing down and the insides are squishy cozy.  Ahhh!!!  I love them.  The boys are ready to get the party started with their new Nikes, and I like that they're easy to get on as we're leaving the house.

Rack Room Shoes has a really great annual Shoes That Fit campaign, where you can donate money to help raise funds for families in need.  You can donate in the store or online and Rack Room matches 100% of the donations raised.  All donations will be distributed in your local area as well.  Very cool.

I hope you're savoring in every last minute of summer!  What are you looking forward to over the next couple of months?!

A Few Last Things

A few last things:

The last time I really loved my hair curly....

Usually my hair ends up looking Shirley Templeish after spending way too long trying to curl it. My sister in law, Kaitlyn, spent about 5 minutes curling my hair the other day and totally rocked it.

The last thing I gave up....

Well.....not exactly gave up.  But gave up as much Coke as I was drinking.  Of course, the day I decided to not drink a Coke was the day I found this one ^.  Mom Coke in a bottle....nom nom.

The last show I absolutely loved...

I am so old school about this show.  Pre-DVR or Netflix or Hulu.  I get the boys in bed, get my little ice cream treat, and turn the tv on at 758pm to get ready for Astronaut Wives Club.  It's borderline terrible acting, but I love the history and the story and the adorable dresses, of course.

The most recent date with Walker boy...

It was rainy outside, so after riding the train inside the mall, Walker asked to do this jumpy thing.  I was surprised he wanted to do it, but he got all strapped in and was excited to jump. After a couple of jumps, I saw him get really nervous (it goes SO high), and that he wasn't going to say anything, so after a couple of "wooh! look at you Walker", I had to swoop in and get him.  He's getting so brave and so big...doing things outside his comfort zone...and taking this big brother job pretty seriously.

The last picture I sent....

Eating his peaches.  This little baby.  He's just as sweet as he is adorable.

I hope y'all have a great weekend!!!

What to do when you're in a style rut

If you're ever in a style're looking through your closet and everything feels blah, or you're trying to figure out whether to dress up or down, or you're realizing that you don't like the way anything fits....go with an all black look!  You can never go wrong with all black. Throwing in a pop of color with an accessory makes things extra fun.

Speaking of fun accessories, I came across this post the other day with Walker boy as a sweet little chunky baby.  Ohhhh my goodness!!  3 years goes by way too fast.

Last week we took a trip to Beaufort, NC with Noel's family for a few days.  The cousins on the Anderson side are all boys and they all have a great time when they get together.

Here are some highlights from the trip.

Last Tuesday, my dad and cousin brought the boat to the house we were staying in.  Noel's dad rented a boat and we all headed out to Cape Lookout Lighthouse.  It was a really fun morning. We climbed to the top of the lighthouse (Charlie included...he's amazing), walked around the beach for a while, ate lunch, and then had to get on with it because of a storm coming in.  I carried Crew like this ^ for a really long time, and my biceps are now about 10 sizes bigger.  But seriously....I love having a little 6 month old.  So much sweetness and love.

We also took a bike ride into town which was a lot of fun.  Walker and Crew boo rode with me (when you're the youngest of 6 boys cousins, you get the pink helmet) and Charlie rode with Uncle Curtis.  A bike is on my Christmas list, too, btw. (in case you're reading this, Santa.)

And of course, there was lots of ice cream involved.

The weather here in NC has been so beautiful, so we're soaking in every moment before school starts.  I wish this summer would last forever!

9 tips on getting baby to sleep through the night

This little sweetheart has been sleeping through the night (7pm to 7am) since he was 6 weeks old.  When people ask how I'm feeling after baby, I can honestly answer, "Great!!", because I'm getting some really good sleep!!  You can do anything when you're well rested, by the way.

I credit most of Crew's sleeping habits to being a tender mercy.  It's also helpful that Crew is my 3rd and I have a whole list of do's and don'ts for nighttime routine.

Here are some things on my do list.  (Keep in mind that every baby and situation is different!)

1.  While you're in the hospital, keep the baby in the room with you.
This was the biggest difference from Charlie to Walker.  Yes, you're tired and sore and want some sleep, but when the baby is in the nursery at night, he will be exposed to super loud noises, fluorescent lights, and craziness.  When the baby is in your room, you'll be able to get used to their sounds and everything else about them.  You can ask the nurse to keep the light off in your room when they come and check on you and ask her to keep things quiet. Nighttime is for sleeping.

2.  Start a routine immediately.
Day 1.  I like to do a bath, lotion, prayer, kisses, turn off the light, and nurse the baby in the dark and in the quiet.

3.  Keep nighttime quiet time.
No talking, no playing....just basic needs are met.  This sounds a little robotic, especially with a little baby, and of course there's exceptions if they're not feeling well, but when everyone sleeps at night, I can be a better mother to them.

4.  Cool Mist Humidifier
The sound helps them sleep and keeps them healthy during the winter.

5.  Swaddle
I am a huge fan of the swaddle blankets they give out at the hospital.  They aren't the cutest, but they are the perfect weight and size.  I swaddle them up really tight, arms in when they're teeny, and waist down when they get a little more wiggly.

6.  Diaper Genie Elite Pail System
I was advised to buy one before having Charlie, but I had no clue what to do with them or the refills.  Target has all the Diaper Genie products you'll ever need.  I quickly learned that they are one of the best products ever invented. The Diaper Genie holds tons of diapers, keeps the smell in, and is right there for disposal.  No leaving diapers around and forgetting to take them to the garbage.

7.  Nightgowns
This is something I didn't catch on to until Crew.  When you're up in the middle of the night, you're totally drowsy, so zippers and buttons are a big ol' no.  When you have the nightgown, you can just slip the gown up, change the diaper really fast, and get them back in bed.  This is also really good for winter babies when it's so cold.

8.  Let them learn
A few things with this.  I'm a firm believer in putting babies in their beds on night 1.  I always bring the mattress in their room for the first week so I can hear them breathe, but I like for babies to learn to sleep in their beds.
Also, I think it's important to allow babies to learn how to fall asleep on their own. Sometimes the itty bitty babies fall asleep before you can get them in bed, but for bigger babies, it's good to lay them in bed, and let them fall asleep by themselves.

9.    Relax
Seriously.  Best thing you can do.  The more relaxed you are, the more relaxed your baby will be.  They'll sleep one day....they really will.  And if they aren't sleeping before you want them to, get someone to come over and watch the baby so you can take a snooze!
