The thing about social media....
A few weeks ago, during Spring Break, we had one of those perfect days.
The boys and I had a nice breakfast, we went on a long walk with my dad, we visited my sister and went to her campus, and then we ate at my favorite bagel place. We then met my parents at Tryon Palace, went to my brother and sister in law's house to visit, and ate a nice dinner with them downtown. The weather was perfect. Everything was so nice.
I put the boys down for bed, and got out my computer to do a few minutes of work before I crashed myself. I was in such a great mood...what a wonderful day we had!
It took about 5.5 minutes on Facebook to change my mood. Ughhh...social media!!
A birth announcement (why does the stork keep missing my house?!), people coming up in my newsfeed that I was sure I blocked on all forms of social media, and people just being too much.
There are some good days on social media... People telling about nice things others did for them, or great opportunities they recently came across, or a trip that they took....all nice things that I enjoy seeing. I think FB tends to be more annoying because it's more of the people you know in real life...and you know they don't act the same on the internet as they do in real life.
We just need a manual for each form of social media...things you should and should not do!
I love seeing inspiring things on the internet....creative things....even heated things if there's some thought put into it.
I love seeing people accomplish new things and receive awards. I love reading a good Buzzfeed article. :) And I really do, for the most part, enjoy social media. I am a blogger after all. (And who doesn't love a good outfit of the day, or a good quote, or a good Pinterest find?!)
It's just interesting that all day I was living life...loving every second of it. And I feel like when we limit social media to a certain time (I try to limit mine to when the boys are asleep) ..or certain times of the day, (instead of scrolling through it whenever we have a second of free time), we'll all love our own lives a little more.
So...let's live life. Get outside. Play with our kids. Read a book. Have a face to face conversation with a friend. Let's enjoy it!

Amen, sister. I can hardly stand to open my Facebook app. The negativity drives me insane. Same with my personal Twitter account! I find myself only using my blog account lately.
Yes, yes and yes!! I could not agree more!! And that picture of your boys is adorable... I just love those "perfect days". And I hope that the stork finds it's way to your house... Hoping and praying I see your announcement someday soon :)
We spent the majority of the weekend outside doing various festivals, farmer's markets and other fun outside things. It was a great reminder that I don't have to sit and watch my computer screen or scroll through Instagram every 10 seconds. Amen!
This is a really great reminder. I tend to rely on my phone for scrolling whenever I have a free minute, but I unplugged a little this weekend and felt really refreshed by it!
you are so right, we let social media bring us down. its so hard because people are so ridiculous. i wish i could remember to just leave it off some days!
Very true. we also have to remember people only share the good on social media- they don't write about the bad as much.
I love this post. I needed a little motivation, and I love being reminded of how good life is when we're not attached to social media constantly. Thanks for sharing!
So true... all of it! (And the stork keeps skipping my house too. =( Hang in there!)
I got off facebook because of all the negativity. Specifically from one of my sisters. Couldn't stand to read it all. Well, that and my hubby hates facebook. So to save the relationship, with both my sister and hubby, I got off. I miss connecting with my family, it was a great way to keep up with the cousins and such, but I don't miss all the negativity. I definitely don't need that in my life.
Thanks for sharing this. Real life happens in front of us. We are lucky to have such things as social media to keep up with family/friends so easily. But let us not forget about the real life we have in front of us.
Yes yes yes. Especially when the weather is so great after this awful winter - I just want to be out living life!
You are so right! I hate how negative people can be on Facebook. I hardly go on there anymore. It really takes too much time that I can enjoy doing other, productive things!
Couldn't agree more! I've honestly considered getting off FB because I get so tired of the complaints, the ads, the ranting, the weird games. We need to be in the moment and enjoy life! Thanks for the reminder!
I second everything you said! Actually, in recent months, I've seen myself pulling away from Facebook and Twitter, and Pinterest completely. Instagram, I'm still big on. Of course, I still check in once or twice a day, but taking myself away from that addictive, constantly scrolling lifestyle has made me feel a lot more content and present!
I have gotten to the point where I don't hardly look at Facebook anymore. Not like Instagram. FB is so clogged with junk these days, I just want to see my friends' posts and photos - no sponsored posts, no ads, no spam. It is too busy.
PS- I agree with you completely about the "documentary". And that is pretty bad when even two married, white girl bloggers are all, "Hold Up. There are way too many married, white girl bloggers in this thing." :)
This really hit home today. I so agree that we are letting social media to take over. We need to focus on our real life family and friends because that is what we will remember.
Social media definitely makes everyone else's grass look a whole lot greener (that sounds weird...but you know what I mean). I try to limit what I post based on what I want to see from others.
I have started to unabashedly hide and de friend people, esp on Facebook. Life is too short and I couldn't agree more that my time is better spent on celebrating the positive and being outside!

I have cut a lot of my social media time in the evenings during lent. It has been a real blessing to me to find other "real life" things to do instead.
I had this same realization over the weekend, and it's been such a much better week because of it!
Bah, I am so over social media, particularly FB. You know when your mom starts checking FB that the hype is officially over
