Besides a soccer game, a trip to Children's Place to get the boys' wedding attire (my brother James is getting married), and a few walks around the neighborhood, we were at home this weekend watching General Conference. It was wonderful. I got the perfect mix of rest, cleaning, and inspiration that I needed.
Twice a year, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints hosts a conference for all the members (and for anyone else who wants to watch). My sisters actually went to the Conference Center, but those of us not in Salt Lake can watch it on the internet or on tv. Our church leaders speak about different topics, and they are always spot on with what needs to be said and heard.
This go around, I felt a strong call to action; the responsibility to go and to do.
In addition to that, I felt the importance of a few things...
* The importance of what I'm doing now.
I felt so strongly that what I'm doing right now, being a mom to 2 little boys, teaching them from the scriptures every day, taking them to church, taking them to art, music, reading, and movement activities...all of this is exactly what I should be doing. Not that I don't need to improve...but I'm doing my best, and I think that's the important part. I feel that if your heart is in the right place, and you're acting on those righteous desires, you're doing what you need to be doing at this time as well.
*The importance of music.
Here's me being all "arts' advocate lady" again. The music from this program just struck my heart. The boys played and colored and snacked throughout conference, but when the Tabernacle Choir sang, there was no movement, no snacking, no noise. Good music affects the hearts of people of all ages. It's so important to expose yourself and your children to good music.
*The importance of service.
I think so many of our own, personal problems vanish when we put others first. I've seen it happen in my life, and I've heard of this happening to others. It's so easy to get caught up in our own schedule and our own life (guilty!) that we often forget that in order to live a full life, we have to help other people.
I'm so grateful for this weekend. I hope you had a wonderful one as well!
PS. I so wish that this picture reflected NC's weather right now. It's still so hot and humid, so this picture is my wishful thinking :)

I'm so happy for your uplifting weekend! It's such a good feeling, to be inspired and boosted into action. You are already fabulous!
Love this post! We had a similar weekend...so nice to get rested up physically and spiritually for the week ahead! Happy Monday!
I am so glad you had such a wonderful, fulfilling weekend!
I'm starting to get a little worried, its only October 7th, BUT I haven't seen Cincinnati look TOTALLY fall ish lately and I'm hoping it doesn't skip and go straight to Winter this year!!
So happy you had such a fulfilling weekend girl. You deserve it :)
Your weekend sounds like it was wonderful! The part about doing your best really resonates with me. I am hard on myself a lot of the time for not being a stay at home mom, and I have to remind myself that I'm doing the best I can with what we have!
Sounds like the perfect weekend to me!! What fantastic take-aways from the conference and definitely things we could all put to good use!
My roommate and I have always been really interested in Mormon culture/lifestyle and have a few friends who follow the faith, so we really wanted to sit down and watch the Conference this weekend. Alas, we didn't get the chance to, but I'm always a fan of the messages they send!
Beautiful. You are such an inspiration.
Yes, what is with this weather in the Carolinas? I am yearning for some chilly weather and crunchy leaves! I was dying in the upper 80s this weekend!

I agree with you! I think it's so important that you be involved with your child especially with artsy type of activities. Isn't it amazing how musical children are. My 15 month hold hears music and bounces around and has so much joy. :)
That is a beautiful picture! I love all of the different colors and we are the same, always at soccer games :) Love it.

loved reading this, and very much agree that to feel fulfilled we must help others as much as we can.
Great lessons!
It was truly such a great weekend! I felt that they were so direct and this is what you need to do and this is how it is this time too (like you said a call to action), as I think it has to be as the world turns more the other way.
Service to others is the best healer.
