Every time I read this quote, it means something completely different to me. Which, I guess, is the point. How often do we say or think a variation of, "When this happens, I'll finally be able to do that" or "I'll finally be able to be happy when this happens."
It's so important to make sure we are enjoying the stage of life we're currently in....and that we're doing whatever it is that we're doing with everything we've got! (Sister Hinckley includes in her quote about these "assignments", "It may be to get an education, it may be to rear children in righteousness, it may be to be a grandparent, it may be to care for and relieve the suffering of someone you love, it may be to do a job in the most excellent way possible, it may be to support someone who has a difficult assignment of their own.") Every stage has it's challenges, but each one also has it's up-sides or benefits.
I've gone through a lot of times where I've wanted the next phase of life to come quickly, and looking back, I wish that I had just enjoyed it. I have to admit though, that this stage of my life is turning out to be a favorite of mine.
2 adorable, sweet as sugar boys, who love to play and eat lots of goldfish. We have a good time. :-) I know this stage is going to change so quickly, so I'm trying to enjoy every minute of it.
Are you thinking about something you're enjoying about your current stage of life? And how you can do, whatever it is that you're supposed to be doing, with your whole heart? I hope so!
Happy Friday, friends!
PS. I hope you'll link up with me on Monday for September's Favorite Things!

This is so true, Ashley. I am enjoying these years with my kids being young, when our family is their world. A coworker and I were JUST talking about that. There will be a time when our kids want to hang out with friends more than they want to hang out with us, so I'm cherishing these years and hope we're creating a strong foundation for when they go out into the world!
This is so sweet and so true! I remember having just my two older girls (being about the same age as yours) being a wonderful time in my motherhood life. It felt like I had everything under "control" and we could just have fun together. :)

The topic has been on my heart and mind a lot lately! Taking pleasure in the present. And you gotta hit the jackpot with those cutie boys!
:) I cannot say enough how much I needed to see this today. I prayed last night for this kind of a sigh of relief in my present day and where I am in my journey. So thank you for posting this today.

My how this post spoke to my heart, Ashley! I'm in such a wonderful place in my life right now so it's very easy for me to remember to be happy and content and enjoy it wholeheartedly. I also look back at some moments and wish that I had this mindset all along...
I'm wiser now and I pray that I'm able to see the beauty in every stage I'm in from this point forward!
So true that we should enjoy living in the moment than constantly looking to the future. I can't say I always do that but this a good reminder!

This is EXACTLY what I have been trying to do. I want to drink in every moment so that I don't have to look back with regrets later. As much as I can't wait to hold my little boy, I'm so thankful that I still have 2.5 months just the 2 of us.
Seeing those sweet boys in those adorable little hats is just too cute. I am currently striving to be the best wife I can be, always. I don't ever want to wish this newlywedness away! :)
What a necessary reminder this morning! I love that quote and the perspective it sheds :)
Your boys are just cuties! Also, I love that quote. I have a lot of assignments lately, literally with school and with my fashion blog and just like the quotes said, I always try to give it my best, because if not I will feel empty as if I never finished.

I love this quote! There is a lot in life that I haven't done right, but one thing I have been all to well aware of since I was a young teen was just how quickly life passes by. When older folks would tell me to enjoy life because it passes in a blink, I really took that to heart. I have never wished for years to pass away. Well... I did wish away a summer that Christopher and I were apart when I was a camp counselor and he was back home in Illinois. ;) But other than that one summer... I have find simple joys in the every day. I have reminded myself of the shortness of life and have done my best to just love where I am. Don't get me wrong, I am SUPER excited to start a family someday and start that next chapter of life, but I am also loving this one. No rushing ahead here. :)
I completely understand what you mean, about times wishing a certain stage would pass and looking back wishing if enjoyed it more. I am feeling that way now actually (wishing a certain stage would pass). This is a great reminder to take a deep breath and try and enjoy the little moments. :)
Why is it so hard for to just BE? I love this quote. Good reminder to just enjoy where we are and stop looking ahead. I needed to hear this today so thank you. :)
What a great quote and your boys are SO cute!

It's really quite a good question to think about - what's your assignment? I feel like I play so many roles and it's difficult to juggle them all and do them all well but I suppose I wouldn't want it any other way
Wow, it is so easy to fall into the misconception that we will be happier when ______ !I struggle with this a lot and continually try to remind myself to love the now with all I have! Thanks for today's dose of that reminder Ashley :)
Oh I needed to read that quote. I'm always trying to have something to look forward to, that I forget to be happy with today and rejoice in the wonderful things I currently have.
