Something I've been meaning to do...

I got chills whenever I read this quote for the first time.  How amazing would the world be if everyone showed a little more compassion?

I've been wanting to put together some bags for the homeless for a while now.  I always feel terrible when I'm sitting at the light and have nothing to give,  so I thought it'd be nice to put together a few bags to keep in my car for future service opportunities.

We put the following items in the bags:

*Bottle of water
*Granola bars
*Toothbrush/toothpaste
*Hand sanitizer
*Kleenex
*Garbage bag
*Mints

I'm glad that we finally put these together.  It only took a few minutes, and hopefully it will lift someone's spirits one day.

I hope you have an amazing weekend!

You know, when I see homeless people on the streets, I try to follow my gut knowing God will lead me to do what is necessary in that moment. And in all the times, I've never felt led to give money. I have given apples, cheeseburgers, and bottles of water, but never a dollar. I went on a mission trip last summer where we served the homeless for a week and lived among them for 24 hours in DC. It was incredibly eye opening. We passed out meals and bags like this, but never had I thought to do this here at home. I love this idea and will definitely be doing it myself - what a great lesson for your boys.

This is such an inspiring idea! I don't like giving money, but have offered food. Some take it some say no and walk away! These would be great to have if someone asks. You are so thoughtful

This is such a wonderful idea! In graduate school as part of my internship, I worked in a food pantry and many of the clients served were homeless.

It stuns me how simple and thoughtful this idea is and how this is the first time I've heard about anything like it! Such a beautiful idea, Ashley, and I'm proud for knowing you, and know that your sons are blessed to have such an excellent example for compassion!

This is such a great idea Ashley. Thank you so much for sharing. There has been so many times that I have thought about having something prepared in my car and it never happens. This little baggy seems like the perfect solution. You are a very kind person!
