We just took our house off the market after about 6 months of trying to sell it. More details on all of that later. Anyways, we completely repainted the upstairs to a neutral color, took all of the frames and fun things off the wall, and now the upstairs looks like more of a show room instead of a home.
I've been trying to think of a few ways to switch things up a bit and need some help in doing that! I just can't make up my mind.
I'm thinking about moving the boys into the same room, turning Walker's room into a playroom, and the loft into a guest room. Not positive, though.
This was Walker's room before we painted it and took everything down. ^ I think it would be fun to have all the toys, art projects, and books in one room.
Here are some ideas that I pulled from my Pinterest boards. A chalkboard with a big table and a wall filled with bookshelves.^
This was Charlie's room before painting, etc. ^
I think it would be awesome to have a huge map on the wall for the boys' room. They read the Atlas every single day, (no joke), so I think they'd love this. ^
The loft is the tricky room. This ^ was kinda what we had before painting. (The chairs were in front of the blue wall). I want an extra bed for a guest, but if there's only a bed up there, the rest of the room has no purpose. It would be a fun playroom, but it's at the top of the stairs with no door, so that'd be the first thing you'd see when you walked up...a bunch of toys.
This ^ is a really great idea for the loft area...but then wouldn't the idea of a separate room for a playroom be pointless?!
Any suggestions on these 3 rooms? Thank goodness for Pinterest, right?! :-)
Happy Friday! I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

I had no idea you had been trying to sell you house! It's totally no fun, but I love these images! Great ideas for your space!
I love all those ideas--especially the last one for the loft idea! And yes, thank goodness for Pinterest or we'd all be doomed to boring houses with boring rooms! Except your 'before' pictures of the rooms looked awesome!
Oh selling a house is a pain!! I'm thinking about moving my boys in the same room but I'm wondering if they will keep each other awake? Any tips?

I love the built-in desk idea for the loft! A very practical use of the space. The map idea is wonderful! My girls love looking at maps and I've thought about incorporating that into our playroom as well. Having the toys in a centralized place is a good idea, but in our house, they still end up all over the palace anyway :)
I will admit that my house is much prettier since the invention of Pinterest! :D
I am torn on a shared rooms - my kids would keep each other up all night, but I have lots of friends whose kids have no problems at all. I would do a test run first before committing to a permanent switcheroo.
Happy Weekend, girl!!
I think (like we talked about!) moving the boys into one big room, making a playroom, and then turning the loft into a guest bedroom would be PERFECT. Then if the boys don't work in the same room, you can figure that out then ;)
i think moving the boys into the same room is a great idea... and i love the map on the walls with the navy and white striped comforters- so cute!!
I love the idea of a great loft/playroom! I can not wait to see what you decide to do!

Oh goodness the last picture iwish I had space for something that amazing!
I love the idea of having all toys in one room. I nannied a family where 2 kids shared a room so that left a room open to be a playroom. Genius.
I love the last image. I had a room similiar to this when my kiddos were toddlers and grade school. The craft area definitely was used everyday and I had zones for toys. Ikea was my go to for shopping for all the organizational bins, cabinets, and desks. Good luck! I have a give away going on Ashley for a great cause. HOpe you can sign up.

I love the idea of maps on the walls as wallpaper for the boys' room, so cute! I can't wait to see what you come up with :)

I love the idea for the new boys room! I am on team loft playroom and spare guest room. I grew up with a playroom loft and my mom loved it because she could hear us while we played while she was downstairs in the kitchen. With your third idea, you could make a functional loft playroom and not just see toys when you walk up!
I like the idea of the boys in the same room and a playroom. The 3rd room is tricky because you want it to get used and I don't know how often you have guests over. It could always be a workspace for you or your husband and it could have a bed in it so that it's available when you have guests.
For the loft- make the bed into a really fun daybed with lots of pillows so it's almost like a couch and then put one of those desks (like in the picture) along the other wall. Then it's like a sitting room/office/guest room. The playroom idea is great. It would be so nice to have all the toys contained and away from their "sleep" place.
We just did away with our play room and moved the toys to their rooms. We moved the sleeper sofa in there and the treadmill/yoga mats so now it is kind of a guest/work out room. :) I absolutely loved our playroom but they started not using the general toys we had and she wanted to play more barbies and he wants trains and cars, so it just made sense to clear it out. I absolutely LOVE those desks you have. How perfect for home school??!? I have one I am refinishing, hopefully for Parker this year as we explore letters, shapes and colors further.
I love the last image with the desks a lot.
Can't wait to see what you have decided!

I think this is such a great idea, especially because they're so close in age! Maybe a cute tepee/fort/tent in the corner of the playroom? That way they have a secret place just for them!
I LOVE the idea of the chalkboard wall. That would have been a dream to have as a kid!!
I love the idea of a play room! I would feel the same way about your loft area -- I wouldn't want to walk up the stairs and see a bunch of toys.
Oooh I love all these ideas! The wall of bookshelves the maps on the walls... so many cute ideas!
ugh, that must have been so hard with two little ones running around. I love your ideas! I would love a chalkboard wall in our playroom.
Loving the ideas you came up with...that alphabet wall is the cutest!

Oh girl, I am in the same boat as you! We have a mud room that is just wasted space right now & trying to use Pinterest to inspire me!! It's hard to try and redecorate....it costs so much! BUT, I am loving your inspirations on Pinterest....you guys got this!!
Did I ever give my two sense on this? thought I did... but here it goes:
Yup. love it all! I vote 2nd one down if you care;)
Definitely love the book shelves for the boys. You can never have too many books. As for the loft you could do a sort of reading nook, creativity space for both the boys and you and your husband?
Our loft is our playroom, but it is kind of at the end of the hall so as long as the entry is clean than you can't see all the mess :)
What's weird is that just today I sat on the couch for a solid five minutes contemplating how I decorate my new apartment that I have no idea when I will be moving into.. but I thought, "map" I definitely need a giant map.
I really like the last playroom A LOT - so cute
