Moderation

I never hear anyone expressing excitement for the winter or summer weather.  No one says, "I'm so excited for it to be so cold I can barely move", or "I just can't wait to start sweating all day every day".  People (including myself) DO get in to the Fall and the Spring.

Which got me thinking...we really do need moderation in all things.  And even more specific...we need moderation in all good things.  With all the different responsibilities we have, it's often hard to keep priorities straight.  I've noticed in the past few weeks that I haven't been spending enough time feeding my spirit, so I've been working on developing a morning routine to do just that.  When I wake up a little earlier to read my scriptures, I feel that my mind is automatically focused, and that's just a great way to start the day!

It's hard finding balance in life, and it's something that is constantly changing.  How do you do it?

Happy Friday, friends!

love this and i, too, need to start waking up a little earlier so forrest and i can read a daily devotion together. i've never been great at balancing life especially when i had a full time job. i was working all day, cooking at night, walking the pup, and blogging and then the husband was working, traveling and bringing work home....there was never time for much "us" time to just sit down, relax, and catch up with each other. since our move, it has gotten a bit better only because i'm still on the job search and he's not traveling at the moment. it's a work in progress for sure but this post just reminded me to try a bit harder to balance out the most important things in life :) have a great weekend with your sister!!!

Since I started working from home, balance is a tricky one. Most days it's something like riding a unicycle . . . a little bit forward, a little bit back!

But, on a brighter note: it's almost fall! :)

i struggle with that too! It's so hard to fit everything in. I need to do a better job being disciplined with quiet times, and even quality time with my husband. always nice to hear reminders and encouragement!

Thanks for sharing this today... Our bible study group has been on a break for 6 weeks and we've been out of town a lot on the weekends so it's been hard to stay focused. I'm thankful that BSF starts this Monday! WOO HOO! Back on track! xoxo

i agree, moderation is good, even in good things, which is sometimes hard to accept.

Yep, trying to balance life, especially with kiddos is TOUGH! I find comfort in reading a daily devotional. Have a GREAT weekend, lovely lady!

What a great reminder! I usually read my Bible at night, but on those nights I'm just too tired, I pass. I need to start a morning routine as well!

I'm doing that challenge to read all the last conference talks before october's conference and it's been really great! I highly recommend it. And a lot of the talks are super short so it's a great wind down before i go to bed.

Oh and apparently the hubs and I are total weirdos because he always looks forward to winter and being really cold, and i look forward to summer... and well not the sweating but the warm weather, sunshine til 9 pm, baking by the pool... of course fall and spring are wonderful too. I appreciate all the seasons the older i get.

Well said my friend. Such a great reminder! I struggle with this on a daily basis. Moderation is absolutely key ... except for when it comes to donut holes. I'm sorry, it's Friday. And there are unlimited donut holes in our office at work. No moderation.

I am actually that person that adores summer. Mostly because I adore the beach and we go lots during the summer. Plus it's my birthday. And our anniversary. And we travel a lot during the summer. And it is normally wedding season. Haha! Yeah, I love summer. I really love all times of the year except that January-March time period that is just so dreadfully cold with no Christmas to look forward to. Anyway, I agree with you about needing balance in life, though! Great thoughts today. :)

I usually take time in the middle of the day...on my lunchtime or when I get home. I jam to worship songs on my way to work and on my way home. I love having the time alone to read and sing (no reading while I'm driving, of course) ;)

have a great weekend over there! :)

Thanks for this. I really needed it today. This week has been a hectic one. I'm still trying to figure out my balance. Live and learn. :)

I definitely needed to hear this. I'm still struggling to find that balance since I started working full time. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be, and I've let certain things lose the priority they once held. Thanks for the reminder, Ashley!

President Germann said that "balance" is Satan's tool. We need to be less balanced and heavier on the spiritual scale. Trying to balance temporal demands with our spiritual progression will never work. By giving up some of the good things, we are able to do/participate in the best things, bringing us greater strength and peace.

Trying to find balance has also been tricky for me. I actually started thinking about ways to regroup, then reorganize my priorities a few weeks ago. Now I make sure I have all of my stuff done first thing in the morning. This way I know that when I end my day, even if I am super tired, I have already taken care of my needs.

Great posting :)

It's so hard for me to stick to routine. I always plan to, but life gets in a way!

very well said! i find that even though i'm a very social person - i.e. in college, i LOVE having people in my room all the time and just being surrounded by others - but to keep my sanity and to find some balance, i do need A LOT of alone time, whether it's a solo trip to grab coffee or just some quiet time lazing about in bed. that's when the deep thoughts start and i find myself defining my life! great post!

I love summer! I love the sun! I love the heat! I have a passion for UV rays :D

... Sorry, I just had to. I really do love summer.

But you are completely right about needing to moderate ourselves. Disciplining oneself is one of the hardest things we do.

Oh Ashley, I think you're going to have a big smile on your face when you read my blog post for tomorrow - similar to yours, but different season! But, I get exactly how you feel!
