September's Favorite Things

Here are some of my favorite things from September!

These bracelets have a story.  I met the wonderful Angela for the first time the other night!  She is so fantastic and we became instant friends.  I got to the mall a little early and decided to drop in Francesca's.  Sitting on the clearance table was this beauty for $5.  I have been eyeing them at Bevello's for the past year, but in true Bevello fashion, they were (and are still) on the pricey side.  While I was in Francesca's, I saw one of my friends from high school who I haven't seen in years!!  What a fantastic night that was.

The four of us have not spent an entire day together all month, except on Labor Day.  (September has been insanely busy).  On Labor Day, we sat around in our cozy clothes, (and the boys in their diapers), and just played.  It was wonderful.  We also watched the movie, Chimpanzee, and I loved every second of snuggle time with my boys.

Are these Halloween buckets not the cutest??!  I am so excited for the boys to use them.  My incredibly talented friend, Jennie made these for the boys and I love them.  If you want a Halloween bucket for your little one, go to Jennie's FB page, look around (because she has more options), and order you one.  If you tell her about this blog post, she'll give you 10% off your order.  Yay!!!

Fall Decorations!!!  Oh how I love them.  I need to add a pumpkin patch picture of the boys in the brown frame, but I love this Halloween printable.  You can download it for free here.

If this picture of Walker doesn't make you smile, I'm not really sure what will.  He is such a sweetheart and I could kiss those cheeks all day...and I do!

September has been a fantastic month!

Yellow Bridal Shower!!

My friend and old college roomie, Catie is getting married in November!  My mom, my sisters, and I gave her a bridal shower last Saturday.  Yellow is Catie's favorite color so we took that color theme and ran with it.

Can we talk about this pudding cup for a second?  Catie has a gluten intolerance, and loves her some pudding for dessert.  My family and I set up an assembly line the night before and came up with this beauty.  The bottom layer is crushed Oreos (we took that out for Catie's cup), the second layer is chocolate pudding, the third is a mixture of 1 bar of cream cheese, 1 package of powdered sugar, and 1 container of Cool Whip (I know, right??!), then another layer of pudding, a layer of just Cool Whip, and is topped off with strawberries and brown sprinkles.

We had a wonderful time celebrating with Catie!

I hope you'll come back tomorrow and link up with me for September's Favorite Things!

One of my favorite looks for the fall is a jacket or a blazer with a maxi skirt.  (I definitely busted this jacket out from my high school days. Emmy Review

Let's have some Emmy talk.  I could go on about some of the dresses that looked like really bad prom outfits....but instead I'll focus on the gorgeous ones.

Here are my top 3 picks from last night's Emmy Awards.

THIRD PLACE
Julie Bowen
A classic style with a ridiculously bright color....I love it.

SECOND PLACE
Julianne Moore
When she came on the screen, I said "Wowww" out loud.  How refreshing is it to see a gorgeous, MODEST gown?!

FIRST PLACE
Ginnifer Goodwin
Goodness gracious, I'm in love with this gown.  It's so simple in style but so complex in pattern.  And how stunning does she look in it?  I would buy a dress like this in a heartbeat.

I'm seeing a definite pattern in my swooning.  Simple style with a brilliant color or style.

What were your favorites from last night?

My Style: Home Version

Home Goods (love that place) is doing a "Stylescope" on their website.  I had to check it out to see what kind of style their designers think I have!

I went to their website, and was asked to choose 5 pictures that "spoke to me".

I chose these 5.

And then was told that I have this style.

Hmmm...Farmhouse Glam (isn't that an oxymoron?) with a touch of Boho.  They also gave me examples of what I might like to buy from their store...how nice of them.   I would say I'm more "Classic" with a touch of "Sassy".  You can check out my Dream Home Pinterest board here and see what you think.

These are two images I've pinned lately... .

Which definitely proves the whole "Sassy" thing, I think.  And it's also telling me that I need to do an accent wall right away!!

What's your home style??  Have you taken this test?

Future Olympian

I wanted to do something special with Walker while big brother, Charlie is in preschool.   I found the most adorable "gym" class for him and love getting this one on one time.  Walker definitely realizes that this time is all about him and is having so much fun in his little class.

I hope you all had a great weekend.  The NC weather was absolutely perfect and we loved every second of it!

(Oh, and here's a little video of little baby during his class.  Love the music!)

Letters....

Dear Cooler Weather, You always remind me of my college days.  That first taste of cool air takes me right back to ECU.  Dear Fall TV, I haven't had time to watch much tv lately, but for you (Revenge, Modern Family, etc), I will MAKE time.  Dear Boot Sock Trend, Please end.  Dear Old Navy,  Why do you have the cutest stuff in right now???!!  I almost had to start hiding clothes in my size, so that one day, when I strike gold, I can come back and buy the entire store.  Dear Nicholas Sparks' Fans, Do you ever wish he would write an alternate ending to some books?  Like, what would have happened if Allie chose Lon?  Dear Target, I realize I'm one of the only people who still uses an actual paper planner, but I'm going to need you to rip those July 2012 to July 2013 up, and get me a full 2013 edition. Dear Friends, I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

A blast from the past....

Every time I see this picture of me and my brother, I can't get over how much my Walker looks like his Uncle James.  My brother always calls Walker "Sinclair"...and I have to remind him that he was once a chunky munk too.  Now, not so much...but then...yes!  I do love my chunky little Walker boy.  I can't go anywhere without random people reaching out to grab his thighs.  I don't blame them, though...they are pretty irresistible.  Also, can we talk about my diva self in this picture?  Does it remind you of this outfit (and hair)?!

It takes true talent to fall asleep while eating, my Walker boy.  I love you oh so much!

Mixing it up

Skirt: F21 similar here, Top: H&M similar here, Necklace: Ann Taylor

Let's be honest...some pattern mixing is down right scary.  But I do enjoy spicing things up a bit every now and then, and stuck with my go-to, classic, black and white.  Some people feel totally ok with pairing some pattern mixing with bold accessories, but I like to keep things simple and neutral.  (And no, I'm not barefoot as it may appear...I'm wearing my flesh colored flats).

What about you?  Do you like mixing patterns? (And if so, what are your favorites to mix?)

School Days

My Charlie had his first day of preschool last week.

Best sibling shot.

How cute is this little man with his big book bag?

When we walked up to Charlie's classroom last week, he put his bag by his spot, went straight into the classroom, turned around, and said "Bye, Mom!"  Mom?  Break my heart a million times.  But, I'm so glad he loves school and his amazing teachers!

Moderation

I never hear anyone expressing excitement for the winter or summer weather.  No one says, "I'm so excited for it to be so cold I can barely move", or "I just can't wait to start sweating all day every day".  People (including myself) DO get in to the Fall and the Spring.

Which got me thinking...we really do need moderation in all things.  And even more specific...we need moderation in all good things.  With all the different responsibilities we have, it's often hard to keep priorities straight.  I've noticed in the past few weeks that I haven't been spending enough time feeding my spirit, so I've been working on developing a morning routine to do just that.  When I wake up a little earlier to read my scriptures, I feel that my mind is automatically focused, and that's just a great way to start the day!

It's hard finding balance in life, and it's something that is constantly changing.  How do you do it?

Happy Friday, friends!
