Photo taken of me back in the day (4 years ago) by my girl, Bridget
I grew up training in classical ballet. I continued that training during my college years (where I majored in Dance Education). One day, while I was in class, I remember being SO over ballet. My foot was killing me from having a blister that caved IN, I was sick of wearing a leotard and pink tights, and my head was hurting from all the bobby pins. While I was waiting to go across the floor, the Modern dance class down the hall caught my eye. They were rolling on the floor, dressed in sweats, dancing while accompanied by a live drummer. Everything I was not doing. From that moment on, I switched my dance focus. I was trained by a Modern Dance genius, and finally found a deep love for the art of dance. Now, though, as I'm a little older, I've found a real love for ballet as well. It's nice to stop the world for a moment and get lost in beautiful movement....(and now that I'm older, teachers don't make me wear a leotard and pink tights) :-)
PS. Make sure to get your Favorite Things post ready to link up with me THIS Friday!

awesome post! i never took dance lessons but wish i would have! i played soccer for years and even though it was a blast...it took up all my time! maybe i'll enroll salvie in a modern dance class soon HAHA!
I danced up until high school and I LOVED it! I still love to dance and do it whenever I get te chance! Great post!
I grew up with dance as well, but stopped once I hit high school. It is something I wish my girls had an interest in. I am going to give it a whirl again with Landry. I think it is so amazing that you continue to follow this passion...and can do the splits! ;) LOL!

Love love love this post, Ashley!
I fell out of love with ballet for the same reasons... it hurt... bad. I've lost many a bruised toenail due to point shoes (TMI, but it's the truth). Modern was just so freeing and natural.
Now, that I'm older and not trying so hard to be the best, ballet has found it's place back in my heart. I really love the structure and discipline it provides.
P.S. Lovely pic. :)
I majored in Dance as well! My focus was Modern dance, I went to UNCG which is a huge modern dance school. I was lucky enough to have been trained by some awesome people as well! Love dance :)!
That pic of you is amazing! You should post a video of your dancing, I'd love to watch!
I also love the picture! My sister did dance in high school and would come home and try to teach me all the moves and steps. By far, modern dance was my favorite. I wish I would have taken it in high school too! Ballet is pretty, but I think that is one dance you have to have patience to sit through and watch.
I did ballet for 5 years when I was a young girl but quit because (from what I remember) I hated putting on the itchy pink tights... ;) I always regretted that, especially since I was apparently pretty good at it according to my teachers.
oh well, live and learn right?
Beautiful picture! Am I going to see you on SYTYCD next season?!
What a cool picture! I remember having those moments of being SO over a particular sport (for me, it was gymnastics and then pole vaulting), but of course now I wish I'd stuck with them longer, while I still could!
Super cool that you switched over to modern dance and kept your passion alive :)
wow this is so cool to know about you!! thanks for sharing
Beautiful photo! Okay....I didn't realize the month was almost over and it was time for a favorite things post!
I wish I danced when I was younger :( Beautiful photo!
That's such a great photo of you! And o answer your question, I live near Gilgo Beach in NY.
That is the coolest photo! I hope you have a monster one hung somewhere at home!!!
So after you commented I just had to go find your blog and see who you were. I am pretty sure I spent about 30 minutes reading some of your previous posts! You have such a cute family!
So glad you stopped by my blog this afternoon :) You and your family are too cute--- your boys are just precious! Looking forward to following along now :)
What a beautiful picture. I'm happy you get to do something you love.
Oh my gosh.
Ashley, there are just some positions my body will never be in, THAT IS ONE OF THEM.
I love that you have dance.
That is a beautiful picture!! I also love your story- it reminds me of Step Up- so random I know!
I detest pink tights. They make me feel like I have thunder thighs. I have been a black tights (over the leotard) kind of girl forever! I am doing a dance post tomorrow too!

This makes me smile. My best friend is a dancer and I've always been mesmerized by her dance moves.
Hey Ashley! I have been loving your comments over at Team Skelley-- it is so nice to meet you! I tried to hit the Follow button on my phone days ago, but apparently you cannot do that via Smart Phone. Frown.
I was a dancer too, but ingrown toenails ended my time in toe shoes. My dance of choice is tap. We do have a lot in common, I love it! :D
I have the same feelings about music. I'm a classically trained clarinetist and there are definitely times when I feel SO over it! Which is why I stopped playing for 2 years! haha... I'm getting back into it though, trying to find ways to keep it new and interesting :-)

I took one year of dance-- it was a dance/tap/tumbling combo class. I could not do a backwards summersault so I quit. Should have stuck with just dance or tap silly me
Love that photo! I took a little bit of ballet when I was a kid. Wish I would have kept up with it!
i wish i kept doing ballet. i miss it. in fact, i was looking up adult classes in my area. hopefully i can find one soon and start back up again. :)
